I hold culturally safe workshops where participants are welcomed into an intimate creative gathering, to learn about the cultural significance of weaving in Australia. Jenine enjoys sharing the ‘Wild Weaving’ technique that she has developed through her personal practice, inspired by nature and her family and community. Under Jenine’s guidance, participants are given the opportunity to cultivate some new weaving skills, and are encouraged to create their own unique woven artwork to take home. Possible examples include a wall hanging, the basis of a small basket, earrings or a necklace (or other piece of wearable art).
Jenine describes her style is easy to learn. “Its the basics, a bit like a blend between knitting and sewing. There is really no right or wrong way. Weaving is all about self expression,” she said. “I encourage people to develop their own style, explore ideas and individualise things in their own special way - everyone’s pieces are unique, limited only by their imagination!”
The weaving workshops provide an opportunity to meet with some like-minded people, and to chat, learn and share a creative experience. Participants leave with some new skills, to enable the further exploration of their creative ideas at home.
